Letter
from the Editor
In
the final 2004 edition of the Ccaps Newsletter,
Sarah Hyde gives us a first-hand account of LISE Brasil
- the Conference on Software Localization and Internationalization
for Export that was held in the Southern Brazilian city
of Florianópolis. The event, which took place
from November 23-24, gathered specialists and businessmen
from the localization industry. They attended a series
of lectures and social events, and Ccaps used the opportunity
to develop new business relationships and partnerships.
Already
in the final stretch of this year, we can clearly see
the finish line in front of us. To ring in the new year,
we have chosen two associations from the translation
and localization industry that will discuss their achievements
in 2004 and their plans for 2005.
Laura
Brandon, GALA administrator, discusses different industry-related
events that the organization supported in 2004. They
include LISE Brasil and the Jornada Internacional de
Traducción, in Rosario, Argentina - which was
one of the highlights of last month’s edition
of the Ccaps Newsletter.
We
have also included an article by Tereza Braga about
ATA’s activities in the United States and specifically
in Brazil. Braga, who is the current administrator of
ATA’s Portuguese Language Division, also talks
about the upcoming certification exams for new member
candidates.
As
a result of the fruitful partnership between
Ccaps Newsletter and MultiLingual Computing
& Technology, we will now be publishing articles
from this renown industry magazine. The articles will
be presented always in the original text, accompanied
by a translation into Portuguese. This month, Mark Berghan
explains how to choose a CMS solution that meets the
requirements of a multilingual site. They are tips that
will help you know exactly what to look for in a content
management system for your website.
We
will return with the Ccaps Newsletter
in the beginning of February. Until then, I would like
to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and
prosperous New Year, one full of achievements and joy.
Happy
Holidays!
