From
November 23-24, Ccaps Translation and Localization participated
in the first edition of LISE Brasil - the Conference on Software
Localization and Internationalization for Export in the Southern
Brazilian city of Florionopolis. The debut event gathered
some 100 people, including localization and translation professionals,
software company directors, university professors and experts.
Over the two days of the conference, participants networked,
exchanged ideas and learned more about the software localization
industry.
As
the Ccaps Project Manager for national accounts, I accompanied
our Managing Director, Fabiano Cid at the event. “I
strongly believe that localization is the means for the Brazilian
software industry to increase its participation in the global
arena,” said Cid. “We have the investments, the
creativity and the people to develop top quality products
for the international market. All we need now is to communicate
effectively in the target language.”
Renown
industry experts such as Renato Beninatto, part-owner
of Common Sense Advisory, Bert Esselink, author of the
popular “Practical Guide to Localization,”
and Reinhard Schäler, from the Localization Research
Center (LRC) of the University of Limerick in Ireland
gave lectures at the event, discussing the different
aspects of the localization and internationalization
process as well as the complexities of international
business practice. Francilene Garcia, a professor at
the Federal University of Campina Grande, shared her
views on the challenges of entering the Chinese market,
while the former Brazilian Ambassador to the United
States discussed the Brazilian-US trade relations and
gave his predictions for the upcoming years.
According
to Don de Palma, author of “Business Without Borders:
A Strategic Guide to Global Marketing,” because
this was a debut event in Brazil, it served as an excellent
networking opportunity: “By asking questions and
interacting among themselves, the participants ensured
a lively discussion both inside and outside the sessions,”
said de Palma. “As a director of GALA [the Globalization
and Localization Association], one of the sponsors,
I was pleased to see the high level of interest in the
very difficult but necessary task of localizing products
and globalizing companies.”
In
addition to the lectures, the event included a roundtable,
open meetings and social activities including a capoeira
presentation and a networking dinner. The multinational,
multilingual crowd came from Brazil, Argentina, Belgium,
Germany and the United States, among other countries.

LISE
Brasil was an important event for Ccaps because it is part
of our strategy to provide the Brazilian market with quality
localization services into foreign languages in the same way
that we have been providing the international community with
top-of-the-line localization into Brazilian Portuguese. “The
opportunity to meet new prospects and introduce them to our
array of services was invaluable,” added Cid.
