Letter
from the Editor
Welcome
to the special trilingual edition of the Ccaps
Newsletter!
This
month, we have decided to focus on the Spanish-speaking
world and see what is happening with our neighbors throughout
the Americas. The special feature of this edition is
that each of the articles appears in Spanish in addition
to our standard Portuguese and English pair, languages
in which Ccaps has become highly proficient.
How
is the Spanish language molded to a new vision with
so many existing variations? In her article, María
Angeles Prieto describes the growth of Spanglish
among the U.S.-based Hispanic population and the difficulties
encountered when translating for this very unique group.
Two
important events will take place in the city of Rosario,
Argentina during the month of November: the III International
Spanish Language Conference and the International Translator’s
Meeting. María Gabriela Morales tells us about
these events that will discuss the importance of constantly
adapting the Spanish language in a globalized world.
While
preparing this edition, we had a very pleasant surprise:
MultiLingual Computing & Technology had also published
a supplement about the Spanish market that included
some fascinating articles. John Yunker’s text
was reproduced here to enrich this month’s Newsletter.
