In any professional area, you need specialized courses, a degree or even certifications to stay up-to-date and be able to prove that you really know how to work in that specific area. In localization, however we often see people who specialize only in languages or project management, expertise that is acquired mainly with practice. This leaves out an extremely important part, which is the specific knowledge of the field, such as tools, file coding, etc.

So why not take advantage of an excellent opportunity that the Institute of Localisation Professionals is offering? They are promoting a course in Brazil for those working in localization to learn a bit more about all of these details, meet other people from the industry, increase their knowledge of different tools, obtain a certification in localization and even obtain free licenses for several different tools! Anderson Cézar and I will be taking the course over the upcoming months, beginning now with 10 online modules and finishing with four days of on-site classes in Porto Alegre.

The program was created for translators, project managers and engineers, since the content is important for all of them.

There are some days when we are walking down the street, talking to a friend when we feel like showing them part of a post, like these product names with strange meanings in other languages.

Unfortunately, most of our mobile devices, like cellular and smartphones, have a hard time displaying websites in full, in addition to the fact that they use most of our bandwidth, which is still expensive in Brazil.

To make this easier, the solution is to create a simpler version of the blog. This version should fit mobile device screens and be lighter to load faster and not use too much bandwidth. This is exactly what we did with the Ccaps Blog! Now, if you open the Blog in a mobile device, it recognizes that and automatically loads the mobile version. Cool, huh?

The first links you see are the language option links. Like the desktop version, click on those links from any page to change the language without having to search again for the page or post you want to read. And, if for some reason, you want to go back to the normal version, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Switch to our desktop site.

Now you can share those funny Bushisms with your friends at a bar when your stock of jokes has run out…

I luv the Urban Dictionary. It is the shiznit! And it is wicked sick, yo!

No, but seriously, the Urban Dictionary was founded in 1999 by Aaron Peckham. At that time, Peckham was a computer science major at the California Polytechnic State University looking for a project and created this fun and informative way to understand what the heck your teenager and his/her friends are talking about.

The Urban Dictionary is a slang dictionary that is written by the people, for the people. The slangs can be rated by users with a thumbs up or down and the results are posted together with the word. I guess this is to help you decide whether or not the word should actually be added to your vocab.

The Urban Dictionary has over 4,037,566 definitions and was rated by Time Magazine as one of the 50 Best Websites of 2008. Slang entries can be submitted directly to the site and users can also sign up to be editors.

What a wonderful, educational time waster!

Last week, we had a most amusing and unique working day. We headed to a studio for make up, hairstyle and production for a photo shoot for the new Ccaps website. All very professional, we deserve it after all!

Behind the camera was renowned photographer Camilla Maia. She works for Revista, a Sunday publication of Brazilian newspaper O Globo and her work has been published in international magazines such as Modern Elegance and Wallpaper. Gabriel Garcia was our producer and Tina Mello, the make-up artist.

Fabiano explained that he decided to do this because we are revamping the Ccaps marketing material. In this new approach, we are positioning Ccaps as a young company, with strong personal relationship. Not that this is different from what we have been doing all these years, only this time we can show the world who we really are. And as he himself puts it, we will shout it loud!

To show more of who we truly are, he asked us to choose an object that would represent us or illustrate something that we like. Each one of us brought their own object, from running tennis shoes to guitar and books. Since I love traveling, I brought a little globe, which fitted well in the palm of my hand. =)

What Fabiano does not know is that with his idea he created an unforgettable moment, full of glamour for all of us at Ccaps. We could show that not only we could be super models, but also that we have a lot offer, together with the services in which we excel.
